The Great 21 Day Sugar Detox
Did you know that the average person is said to eat between 140 and 180 pounds of sugar per year? That's ridiculous! Almost everything we pick up at the supermarket has added sugar, don't believe me? Take a look the next time you're in a grocery store. In an attempt to break my unhealthy relationship to sugar, I've taken on the 21 day Sugar Detox. My friend and co-worker, Donna invited me to this challenge on Friday night as we munched on sugar waffles while waiting for our take out food the the French Quartet restaurant in town. Over the weekend, I looked at recipes and at the food labels for what's currently living in my cabinets. On Saturday, hubby and I spent some quality time together navigating a shopping cart through Trader Joes, seriously our most favorite place to shop. So, the challenge began this morning, my beloved hubby juiced up a few carrots and some ginger to start off my day. I then consumed a few cups of black coffee and made myself a mushroom, pepper, egg scramble. For lunch a huge salad complete with avocado, heirloom tomatoes, cucumbers, black olives and pistachios, tossed with some extra virgin olive oil.
